This resource details the typical industries, career areas, and employers associated with each major and covers strategies aimed at making you a more marketable candidate after graduation. “What Can I Do With This Major?” is a free, virtual resource available to all Ohio State students.

BUSADM 2600: Undergraduate Speaker Series Course

This is a great opportunity for students to learn about the business specializations from Alumni who are currently working. We bring in speakers from each specialization to discuss what they are doing, why they selected their major, why their personality and skill set fit with their major/career, etc.  This 1-credit hour course is taught Spring semester each year. Occupational Outlook Handbook

The Occupational Outlook Handbook contains US Bureau of Labor Statistics information, organized by specific jobs.

O*NET OnLine 

Browse O*NET Online for different occupations updated frequently by U.S. Department of Labor and learn about the work context, skills and values for all occupations.

FOCUS 2 Assessment  

This collection of assessments aims to guide students’ career interests based on their personality, skills, values, work interests and leisure interests. Students can explore their results tied to majors/minors offered at Ohio State University and to occupations listed on the Occupational Outlook Handbook links. It is recommended to set up a career exploration appointment via Handshake to discuss the results and support you with your career exploration needs.

Fisher Undergraduate Job Shadow Program

Are you a first-year through junior student interested in exploring a particular career path or learning about a company, but you aren’t sure how?  The Fisher Undergraduate Job Shadow Program is an opportunity for undergraduate business students to spend time with industry professionals at an employer’s site, see how Fisher specializations apply in a professional environment, and discover possible career paths.  This program takes place at a variety of different company locations in the state of Ohio during The Ohio State University breaks.  Contact Noella Mascarenhas at Mascarenhas.27@osu.edu with questions.  

Student Participation Requirements:

• Must be a first-year through junior undergraduate business student
• Must be available during business hours on the day of shadow
• Must arrange transportation to employer site
• Must create Handshake profile and upload resume to profile

• Participate in an activity that allows for career exploration
• Investigate a specific industry of interest
• Network with companies and business professionals from Ohio State’s top employers

• Fall 2024 Dates TBD | Apply during August to September 2025
• Spring 2026 Dates TBD | Apply during December 2025 to February 2026

Process:

1. Create profile on Handshake, if you haven’t done so already
2. Visit a Peer Career Coach to review your resume
3. Upload polished copy of resume to your Handshake profile
4. Click on the “Jobs” tab at the top of your Handshake homepage
5. Type in "job shadow" into the keyword search field at the top of the page
6. Review FCOB: Fisher Undergraduate Job Shadow opportunities while carefully making note of dates, times, and locations
7. Submit resume for job shadow opportunities you are interested in
8. The company will contact you to notify if you are selected or not within the timeframe provided
9. The Office of Career Management will send all selected students a student agreement form to review and sign prior to job shadow experience
10. Review the Professional Dress Handout, Networking-Informational Interviews Guide, Company Research Handout, and Thank You Note Guide to prepare for your visit.
11. Follow up with the company with a thank you note for the opportunity to shadow after your shadow occurs
