Business Analytics

The Business Analytics Minor is designed for students across disciplines who want to enhance their major with in-demand skills in data analysis, predictive modeling, and data-driven decision making. Developed with input from industry leaders, this minor prepares students to interpret and apply “big data” for business insights—a valuable advantage in today’s data-centric world.

Curriculum Requirements
The Business Analytics Minor requires 15 credit hours, including:
- 9 hours of required core courses
- 6 hours of electives, chosen from an approved list of analytics-focused courses across multiple disciplines
These foundational courses must be taken in sequence:
- BUSOBA 3331 – Business Analytics: Data Management & Descriptive Analytics (3 credits)
Prerequisites: ECON 2001.01 or equivalent; ECON 2002.02 or equivalent; CSE 2111 or equivalent; MATH 1152 or equivalent (concurrent or prior)
Introduction to data organization, management, visualization, and descriptive analytics. - BUSOBA 3332 – Application of Predictive Analytics to Business Data (3 credits)
Prerequisites: BUSOBA 3331; STAT 3202 or BUSOBA 2320 & 2321
Hands-on course on predictive modeling and inference using modern analytics software. - BUSOBA 3333 – Prescriptive Analytics and Optimization (3 credits)
Prerequisites: Same as 3332
Focuses on decision-making through optimization models, simulations, and causal inference.
Note: BUSOBA 3331 should be taken first. BUSOBA 3332 and 3333 may be taken concurrently with approval.
Choose two courses from the following areas. Each course is 3 or 1.5 credit hours (as noted). Prerequisites vary by course.

To enroll in the core sequence (BUSOBA 3331–3333), you must complete:
- ECON 2001.01 & 2002.01/2002.02 (or equivalents)
- CSE 2111 (or equivalent)
- MATH 1152 (for 3331; may be concurrent)
- STAT 3202 or BUSOBA 2320 & 2321 (for 3332 and 3333)
Note: STAT 3201/3202 can substitute for STAT 1430, BUSOBA 2320, and BUSOBA 2321 in the business major.

Your college must approve the completed minor. Fisher does not require formal approval but can provide a signed program form if needed.
No. Courses in the Business Analytics Minor cannot fulfill major requirements (except as free electives) or count toward another minor. Each minor must contain at least 12 unique credit hours.
- Minimum C- in each course
- Minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA across all minor courses
- Pass/Non-Pass grading is not permitted for any minor course
- No substitutions are allowed for required courses
- You may apply up to 3 credit hours of equivalent transfer credit toward the minor
Yes. BUSOBA 3331 must be taken first. BUSOBA 3332 and 3333 may be taken concurrently if prerequisites are met.
Yes. Students with junior standing may complete BUSADM 3630.05 and 3632.05 through the Industry Immersion Program before taking the required core courses.
