Host, Jen Knox Shanahan:
“What do you think is important for leaders to keep in mind when they’re approaching these big, sometimes scary, organizational changes? Especially when technology is involved?”
Guest, John Hrusovsky:
“I think leaders often underestimate their role in change. A lot of times leaders... they’ll sign off on a hundred-million-dollar I.T. project, and they think they’ve just washed their hands of it. To me, if I’m a leader and I’m going through that, you got to be there with your team. You can’t be the general who tells everyone what to do and then stands way behind. You have to live and breathe this every day. Your team needs to see you engaged, asking questions, learning alongside them. That’s how you build trust—and trust is the currency of transformation.”
Host, Jen Knox Shanahan:
“That image of “living and breathing it every day” really resonates. It’s so easy for leaders to get caught up in strategy and forget that people are watching what they actually do, not just what they say.”
Guest, John Hrusovsky:
“Exactly. And I think sometimes we get too caught up in the buzzwords—digital transformation, AI, modernization. But if you don’t have consistent leadership showing up every day, none of those things are going to stick. Change is hard. You’ve got to earn your team’s buy-in, and that only happens if you’re willing to walk through the change with them.”
